1953 Hughes Hotel Fire

Built of brick, in the Modern Renaissance style, the Hughs Hotel covered a large section of a city block on the southwest corner of I and Tulare street. The hotel survived for decades till it fell victim to one of several arson fires in July, 1953. Badly damaged, the building had to be torn down.
